October Member Spotlight: Marie

Meet Marie!
Marie started working out at KFIT this past February. She quickly fell in love with the workouts and started seeing some amazing results after hitting a plateau in her previous workout experiences. In April she decided to take her health to the next level and take part in our personalized nutrition program (Marie came from a program that was promoting a 1200 calories.) Her body responded to more food well, can we talk about her abs at age 67!!! Marie is an absolute ROCKSTAR and we are so lucky to have her as apart of the KFIT fam!
KFIT has provided me with the keys to success for achieving my nutritional and exercise goals: to reach and maintain my optimal weight and to reverse muscle loss related to aging. I was starting to gain back the weight I lost in 2015 and although I had been exercising regularly for over 2 years, I felt that I had plateaued. Then I got a flyer from KFIT in December of 2017, met with Kerrie and Ally, and observed a class. I started the FITCustom classes in February and the 8-week summer slim down challenge in April.
Over the past 7 months, KFIT has exceeded my expectations. The programs, the coaches, and all of you have had a terrific impact and are helping me be the best that I can be – at age 67! With respect to diets, I went to my first Weight Watchers meeting as a teenager over 50 years ago! Over these many years, I have gone back to Weight Watchers, tried the Zone and Atkins diets, ate NutriSystem meals, counted calories, measured food, and more. I would lose 20 pounds, gain it all back over the next 3 to 4 years, then start over. I thought I knew what to eat, but I also craved sweets. I’d eat healthy all day, then snack late at night. Who knew that the answer to ending my yo-yo diet lifestyle was macros? At KFIT, I’ve learned the importance of eating the right amounts of protein, healthy carbs (including grains), and healthy fats. The meals and snacks are so satisfying that I no longer crave sweets or bedtime snacks. After 8 weeks on the macros plan, I lost 6 pounds and 1.5% body fat, which was perfect. And I got the ultimate compliment from Jodi when looking at my “after pictures.” She said, “You’re crushing a casual six-pack.” Wow! At 67! With respect to exercise, I’ve been reasonably active since my twenties. I’ve jogged on and off for decades – until partial knee replacement surgery in 2012. I fenced competitively in my forties. I’ve been ballroom dancing for the past 25 years. But I never found the right gym to call “home” – the place where I would go regularly and actually see progress. Who knew that a flyer from KFIT provided the answer? The FITCustom classes and my coaches (Erica, Jodie and Ally) are amazing and motivational. I was initially intimidated by pull-ups, burpees, and barbells, not to mention box jumps. No need to stress – my coaches quickly figured out what I can do, when I need modifications, and when to push me. When Erica calls me a “savage,” I know I’ve had a good workout! I look forward to even more progress in the future years. I’m going to be an amazing 70-year old thanks to all of you and the awesome fitness and nutrition programs that Kerrie built.
