Meet our April Member Spotlight, Danielle! Danielle has been with KFIT for almost three years, and during that time we have watched this former cardio queen, turned strength training badass transform before our eyes. She has crushed countless first since starting and continues to embraces every challenge with a smile. Which is why we just love her so much. She’s kind, encouraging and incredibly hard working and SO deserving of a spotlight. D we so happy you retired your running kicks to lift with us!
I started at KFit in September of 2016. At that time in my life, I had recently moved into my first home with my boyfriend, had a new puppy at home, and between a demanding work schedule and the many life changes I was experiencing, I somehow let my love for exercise take a back seat. As a result, I was regularly anxious and lacking the self-confidence I was used to having. It wasn’t about the way I looked, but the way I felt about myself. My boyfriend used to CrossFit with Kerrie, and suggested I look into her gym. He gently kept pushing me to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try. I was so nervous to try something new.. I spent an entire night reading the member spotlights on the website and before even entering the building the community was inspiring me. I had a couple of friends who were going to KFit and loving it, so I faced my fears and booked an intro class with Kerrie. She kicked my ass in 10 minutes. I haven’t looked back since.
I’ve always liked working out and for the most part, living a healthy lifestyle. In my early 20s, I was all about cardio – running, spinning, etc. I ran three half marathons in 2 years. I was proud of myself, but I wasn’t enjoying it. During my last half marathon, I hated every mile. It was freezing cold, and I didn’t train enough, and the experience turned me off completely from running for a while. That was right around the same time I stopped prioritizing working out. Fast forward through a rut of 6 months or so – I signed up for KFIT. I had never touched a barbell in my life or done any kind of weight training, had never done a pull-up, and hadn’t jumped rope since elementary school. The whole experience was so different. Although I was nervous before every class, I LOVED trying new things, getting familiar with the class structure, and feeling supported and motivated by the coaches and other members. I remember being surprised by how quickly the hour went by and feeling so accomplished after every class. It struck me that I was having so much fun working out.. it was so different than going into a gym and passing the time on a treadmill or stair master.
A throwback to Danielle’s first week of KFIT:)
Over two years in and I can say that hasn’t changed. I never dread getting myself to the gym and always go home happier than when I arrived. Like many, I work a job that can come with a bit of stress and a to-do list that only ever seems to grow. I travel pretty often for work, and my personal life keeps most of my “free” time booked. The beauty of the KFIT community is that it’s always around you. When I’m traveling for work or unable to get to the gym, I am inspired to stay on track by the recipe posts and celebrated accomplishments of members being posted online. When I have time away from the gym and getting back into the swing of things is hard, coaches and members pull me back and hold me accountable, in the least judgmental way possible!
Over the last nearly 2.5 years, KFIT has impacted my life in so many ways – both inside and outside of the gym. Things that once seemed unreachable have become a reality, and continue to be replaced with new goals. Physically, my body has changed – I have muscles where I didn’t know I wanted them and have accomplished things I never thought I could. The number on the scale is actually more than it ever has been, but I don’t focus on the number because I know that I am stronger than ever. More importantly, KFIT has changed the way I feel on the inside. I feel more confident and more resilient. My priorities feel more in line and balanced. KFIT offers me a place to go to block out whatever else is going on in my life and to focus only on working hard and challenging myself. All while seeing faces of people that have become friends and having some laughs along the way. I most often attend the 6:30 pm class and have come to love the hardworking and encouraging group of awesome women who frequent that hour. The best thing about KFIT, from my perspective, is that no matter where you are in your journey or how you’re feeling on any given day, you can count on coaches and members who will push you just hard enough to keep you growing. I’m so grateful to be a part of this awesome community.
